Who is Suren Shrestha?

Suren is the founder and lead instructor at The Atma Buti Sound and Vibrational School.

Suren was born in a village in Nepal where healing through drums, gongs, and mantras was the norm.  He came to the United States as a teenager and attended college to receive a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

Noting the growing interest in alternative medicine in the U.S., Suren returned to Nepal to learn how to practice ancient healing techniques using sound and vibration.  After working with the Singing Bowls and studying from several different teachers in Asia, mainly apprenticing under teachers in Nepal, he wished to share the knowledge he had learned with others.

What People Have Said...

Without a doubt, the best Singing Bowl certification is by Suren Shrestha. I took my training years ago with him at Zero Point in Sandpoint, Idaho. The training was very comprehensive 9 years ago!  He even tuned my large collection of antique and contemporary bowls. We had intensive instruction, which I practice currently in Hot Springs, Montana. Thank you very much! Namaste

So many beautiful and sweet memories alongside the rich and wondrous teaching Suren holds! I am truly grateful and honored to have taken these classes with him and now am a carrier of this wisdom as well. He is a man of true humbleness and love and compassion, and if I can walk this path as he does, I am indeed fulfilled and in service.  His teachings are from the heart, and the bowls sing along with him. And they sing along with me now as I am a lucky person to have a family of these bowls at home with me.

I have known Suren and Ruby Shrestha for many years, and I have attended four, fabulous classes with the Atma Buti School. My experience has been beautiful. My life has been changed with the effects of Himalayan Singing Bowls and I have Suren and Ruby to thank. If you want peace and serenity-learn to play singing bowls with Suren.

Suren is a natural teacher. He creates an environment that provides a sacred space for the integration of material throughout the learning process. His joy and commitment to teaching this incredible healing art are evident as it immediately brings students into their own passion and confidence to work with the Himalayan Singing Bowls.

Jane Shallberg, M.Ed., MT-BC

Suren also wrote the book “How to Heal with Singing Bowls” which was published in 2009, translated into four languages, and has become a resource for many sound healing schools throughout the world.

The book offers techniques for using singing bowls for meditation, relaxation, and healing ailments such as insomnia, headache, stress-related intestinal disorders, and high blood pressure. It also includes techniques for using the bowls in conjunction with massage therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture.

Soul Medicine Non-Profit Organization

In 2019, Soul Medicine was established in the U.S. as a 501c3 that will be able to fund the Aama Orphanage Foundation in Nepal.  After years of hard work and planning, dreams for the orphanage foundation are expanding to even greater possibilities.

Profits from the sale of the book “How to Heal with Singing Bowls“, as well as a percentage of the proceeds from healing workshops and classes are donated to the building of a new orphanage in Khandbari.  The new orphanage is going to be a collaborative effort with design students from Arizona State University and it is an exciting time for all as Atma Buti and ASU students work together to create a beautiful home for the orphaned children in Khandbari, Nepal.
